Iran — visa waiver for Indian ordinary passports suspended

Iran suspended the visa waiver for ordinary Indian passport holders with effect from 22 November 2025, announced by India's Ministry of External Affairs on 17 November 2025. The stated reason was a run of cases in which Indians were lured to Iran with false job offers or promises of onward transit — precisely because no visa was needed — and then kidnapped for ransom. The suspension has not been lifted. Our snapshot still showed visa on arrival, which would have sent an Indian traveller to an airport counter that no longer exists for them; ordinary passports now need a visa arranged in advance.
