Egypt — the visa on arrival went digital (QR code), and nothing got harder
On 23 July 2026 the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities announced a Digital Visa-on-Arrival System; the pilot started on 1 August 2026 at all arrival terminals of Cairo International Airport and will be rolled out to other airports in stages. The paper sticker is replaced by a Visa QR code obtained from the official portal, the official app, or self-service machines in the arrival hall — before departure, in flight, or after landing. The price is USD 36 in total: the existing USD 30 visa fee plus a USD 6 issuing fee. Each code stays valid for 48 hours from issuance. During the pilot the paper visa still works alongside it, so the verdict does not change: Egypt is still visa on arrival, only the format is new.
